Our estate was established in 1956, when my grandfather Natale, known as Talein, bought the farmhouse, after working as a sharecropper for years on several farms in the Asti district. Natale was joined immediately by my father Aldo, the youngest of his five children, in the management of the two hectares of vineyards that surround the farmhouse. The estate’s structure changed little, other than the fact that I took over the running of things in 1987, aided by my father of course. It was in 2001 that the estate as you know it today was born. Two important territorial projects were being launched at that time: Spumante Alta Langa and Nizza, in which I had great faith and which encouraged me to vinify the grapes grown on our estate to make high-quality wines. In order to do this, the cellar was renovated and the vineyards were increased to seven hectares, thanks to the purchase of vineyards in Nizza Monferrato. Today, my whole family is involved in the management of the estate: my father Aldo, my mother Angioletta, my wife Gabriella and, most importantly, my daughter Roberta, who has recently graduated from the oenology school in Alba. We all believe that being personally involved in the local territory is essential if it is to grow, and to in order to promote the excellent quality wines made here.

Our estate now consists of a total of seven hectares of vineyards and the grapes are grown using the espalier training system and the Guyot method, with green pruning and thinning to improve the quality of the grapes. The soils are the best in terms of composition and the microclimate is ideal. Our Barbera is cultivated in clayey-silty soils in the municipality of Nizza Monferrato, and the vineyards located in Canelli (Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Moscato) occupy well-exposed calcareous/marl soils.  The yields per hectare range from 7.0 tonnes for Barbera used to make  Nizza ”Sotto la Muda”, to as much as 110 tonnes for Spumante Alta Langa, as required by the production regulations.  The latest EU directives aimed at reducing the use of pesticides and fertilisers are observed in the vineyard, in order to minimise the impact on the environment.
